Chandigarh April 25, 2024:- Physics Department, PU Chandigarh is celebrating this year the birth centenary year of  Prof. H. S. Hans. The main attraction of the event is being held on 29th April 2024 and a special lecture is organised  to remember the enormous contributions made by Prof. Hans to the field of nuclear physics. He established the Cyclotron Accelerator in P.U. Chandigarh which was the first accelerator in Indian University system.
 His role in shaping the Inter University Accelerator Center (IUAC), New Delhi is very important. Prof. Hans remained active in research till his last breath and published last research paper at the age of 92.   The special lecture is being delivered by the Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Deptt. Of Atomic Energy (GoI) Dr. A. K. Mohanty, who is a world renowned nuclear physicist and has headed the prestigious institutes like SINP, BARC before taking over as the Chairman. He has steered many projects of international repute in his capacity  as the head of the Nuclear Physics Division. The programs initiated by the Govt. Of India for the energy self-reliance is speer headed by Dr. Mohanty, leading the massive clean energy efforts  in nuclear power generation.  The talk entitled “ Atoms in the Service of the Nation”  would be delivered in the physics Department on 29th April at 11am and many stalwarts and senior scientists would be joining the Prof. Hans’s birth centenary.
