NRI Murder Case; 72-year-old American woman who came to Punjab for marriage brutally murdered.

Chandigarh:- In the olden days, betrayal in love was also considered a big crime in the world of lovers. But now the news of murder in love has also started coming to the fore. In a shocking murder case related to this, a 72-year-old American citizen, Rupinder Kaur Pandher, was allegedly murdered in Qila Raipur village near Ludhiana in Punjab.
Rupinder had come from Seattle to marry a 75-year-old UK-based NRI.
According to the police, the murder was part of a well-planned conspiracy, the main conspirator of which was the woman’s groom-to-be, Charanjit Singh Grewal. He originally belongs to the village of Mahima Singh Wala, but now lives in England.
Grewal had allegedly offered his associate Sukhjit Singh Sonu Rs 50 lakh to carry out the murder. After which a conspiracy was hatched to carry out the murder
Police say Sonu confessed to killing Rupinder Kaur on the night of July 12-13 and trying to destroy the evidence by burning her body with diesel in the store room of his house. He then allegedly cooled the remains (parts of the skeleton) with water and dumped them in a drain in nearby Lehra village. Investigators have recovered the partial skeleton parts for forensic examination.
Case came to light after no contact with sister
The crime came to light on July 28, when Rupinder Kaur's sister Kamal Kaur Khaira filed a missing person report after losing contact with her. An information about Sonu's custody by Dehlon police led to the investigation into the case.
Police revealed that Rupinder Kaur was invited to India under the false promise of marriage. During this time, he transferred large sums of money to bank accounts linked to Sonu and his brother. It is now believed that money may have been the main motive for the murder.

Charlie Kirk murder: Pope expresses grief over murder suspect;

PROVO/ROME: Seven charges have been filed against the man arrested in the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at an event on the Utah Valley University campus last week. Prosecutors filed an indictment against 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in court on Tuesday.
The judge read the charges and said a lawyer would be appointed for the suspect. Robinson's family declined to comment after the arrest.
Robinson is charged with intentionally killing Kirk. If convicted, he could face the death penalty, life in prison, life without parole or a minimum of 25 years in prison. The sentence could be increased because he allegedly targeted Kirk because of his political views and the incident occurred in the presence of children.
Robinson is also charged with firing a deadly weapon. In addition, he has also been charged with obstruction of justice and tampering with evidence.
It is worth noting that Kirk was shot and killed on September 10. He was the co-founder of the non-profit political organization 'Turning Point USA' and a close ally of US President Donald Trump.
At the time of the shooting, Kirk was addressing a discussion organized by 'Turning Point' at Utah Valley University.
Meanwhile, Pope Leo XIV said during a meeting with the new US ambassador to Vatican City that he is praying for Kirk, his wife and children, a conservative activist who was killed in Utah last week.
A Vatican spokesman gave this information on Tuesday. Spokesman Matteo Bruni said in comments published in Vatican News that the Pope expressed concern over political violence and stressed that rhetoric and opportunistic attitudes should not be adopted, which instead of dialogue, increase divisions in society.

Industry-Academia Week: PEC Students Gain Insights into Entrepreneurship, Sustainable Technology and Civil Engineering

Chandigarh: 17th September, 2025: On the third day of the Industry-Academia Expert Lecture Week at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, students and faculty witnessed three insightful sessions that brought together perspectives from entrepreneurship, sustainable technology, and civil engineering.
The first session featured Mr. Amit Singh, Senior Programme Manager, Wadhwani Foundation, who delivered a thought-provoking lecture on “Entrepreneurship.” He highlighted the fundamental principle that “every entrepreneurial journey begins with identifying a problem.”
Stressing the significance of innovation in today’s era, he explained how Artificial Intelligence can act as a powerful support tool for entrepreneurs in analyzing markets, designing solutions, and scaling businesses.
He elaborated on crucial aspects such as the nature of markets—buyers, sellers, and customer demographics, identifying the Serviceable Obtainable Market (SOM), and studying competitors to carve out a niche. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A round, where students engaged with real-world queries about entrepreneurship pathways.
In the second session, the Department of Chemistry organized an expert lecture on “Sustainable Technology: An Integrated Circular Approach” delivered by Mr. Suyog Jain, a distinguished professional in the chemical and pharmaceutical technology sector.
He highlighted the landmark Potassium Clavulanate bulk fermentation project in Himachal Pradesh—the first of its scale outside China. Established on a 60-acre site with an investment of ?550 crores, the facility already meets 20% of India’s demand for this crucial pharmaceutical input, with potential to achieve 40% at full capacity.
Mr. Jain also shared details of an upcoming ?1500-crore project designed as a fully integrated, circular, and energy-efficient process with minimal carbon footprint. The facility will adopt world-class green technologies, including 2G ethanol production from byproducts and biowaste, in collaboration with Lanzatech USA.
Addressing the students, he emphasized that while India is recognized as the “pharmacy of the world,” self-reliance in Key Starting Materials (KSMs) remains the missing link. He urged young engineers and scientists to embrace sustainable, resource-efficient, and pollution-free technologies to strengthen India’s leadership in the global pharmaceutical and chemical industries.
The final session of the day was hosted by the Department of Civil Engineering, where Er. Arun Kumar, Retd. Chief General Manager, NTPC, delivered a lecture on “Challenges in Tunnelling by TBM in Himalayan Geology – A Case Study.” Drawing from decades of hands-on experience, he explained the complexities of executing tunnelling projects in geologically sensitive Himalayan terrains.
Key technical insights included casting of segments, lining in progress, setting processes, concreting through moulds, and cross-ventilation arrangements. His case study provided students with a rare opportunity to understand the practical challenges of large-scale infrastructure projects and the importance of precision in engineering design and execution.
All three sessions not only enriched students’ technical, entrepreneurial, and sustainable development knowledge, but also bridged the gap between academic learning and industry practices, reinforcing PEC’s commitment to holistic professional growth.
