Ratan Tata died late Wednesday evening at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. India's veteran industrialist Ratan Tata was 86 years old.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the demise of Ratan Tata. He said, “Shri Ratan Tata ji was a visionary business leader, a kind soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India's oldest and most prestigious business houses. Also, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. “He endeared himself to many because of his humility, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to improving our society.”
