Hoshiarpur- On the eve of World Kidney Day, Dr. Aseem Singla, Nephrologist, Max Hospital, shared information to spread awareness about the importance of kidney health. Dr. Aseem Singla said, "Kidney diseases can significantly affect the quality of life, they often develop gradually and symptoms are not noticed until the condition worsens.
However, certain warning signs should not be ignored, such as swelling in the legs, ankles or feet, change in urine color, fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, nausea and loss of appetite. It is important to recognize these symptoms early to prevent further complications."
Several factors increase the risk of kidney disease, including diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, family history of kidney disease, severe kidney injury, urinary tract obstruction, recurrent kidney stones and congenital defects affecting the kidneys or urinary tract.
While some of these factors, such as age and genetics, cannot be changed, many aspects of kidney health are within our control. "By making lifestyle changes, individuals can maintain their kidney functioning and prevent or slow the progression of kidney disease," said Dr. Singla.
Controlling sugar levels and blood pressure, staying hydrated, eating a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, and regularly monitoring kidney functioning are essential steps to maintain overall kidney health. Taking steps to improve kidney health is important for overall health. Early detection and prevention are key."
