Mumbai, February 28- Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut appeared in a special court here on Friday in a defamation case filed by renowned writer Javed Akhtar. Ranaut appeared before a special magistrate court designated to hear cases related to MPs and MLAs in the afternoon.
Akhtar had filed a complaint against Ranaut in 2020 alleging that she made objectionable comments against him in a television interview, which allegedly damaged Akhtar's reputation. The trial was initiated by a magistrate court in suburban Andheri but the case was transferred to a special magistrate court designated for cases related to MPs and MLAs in 2024 after Ranaut was elected as an MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.
While hearing a petition filed by Akhtar seeking issuance of a non-bailable warrant, the court had given the actress one last chance to appear. Accordingly, she appeared in the court on Friday.
