The National Testing Agency (NTA) has cut the JEE Main 2024 syllabus scheduled between January 24 and February 1. While many topics including states of matter, surface chemistry, and hydrogen have been removed from chemistry, topics such as mathematical reasoning and mathematical induction have been removed from mathematics. On the other hand, physics has eliminated some topics from communication systems and experimental skills.
Talking about shortening JEE Main 2024 syllables, this announcement is a bit late. By now serious aspirants must have completed the syllabus covering most of the topics removed. They are now in test taking mode to improve their accuracy and speed. The announcement should have come early in the academic session, in the months of April or May so that students can adjust their timings well.
JEE Main 2024 Syllabus Cut: Good or Bad?
Garg highlights some of the potential benefits of shortening the syllabus. “Reducing the JEE Main syllabus is going to be helpful for those who are not really confident about performing well in the exam. They can take it as an opportunity to increase their scores,” he said.
The reduced JEE Main syllabus is now more consistent in terms of subject balance. “Chemistry was once vast. So, the cut-off is made for all three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. If you look at it now, the syllabus is more even in terms of subject coverage,” says Garg.
Along with the advantages, the lack of syllabus also has disadvantages. “This is definitely going to affect higher education as most of the subjects removed are relevant for engineering courses. It is important to put in place the basics that students studying according to the short syllabus will miss,” he said.
Also, IIT aspirants are not going to benefit from this new move, believing that “students who have a big goal and are preparing for JEE Advanced to get into IITs along with JEE Main. Even though the syllabus is short, one has to prepare for these subjects. In fact, this reduction is not a concern for them at all,” says Garg.
Tips for JEE Main examinees
The stage of preparation for a competitive exam like JEE can be the deciding factor behind success and failure. Therefore, it is important to ensure that the preparation strategy is foolproof. Sharing his tips for engineering aspirants, Vijay Garg said, “Since the JEE Main syllabus is now more aligned with the board exam, I would advise students to focus on their board exam and at the same time Give a series of mock tests. Current JEE Main Pattern lines. Thus, they will not have to deviate from their board exam preparation for JEE. This will help them in both the exams.”
