
Becoming a voter is essential to be a part of a strong democracy - Nicas Kumar
Hoshiarpur- Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Nicas Kumar said that becoming a voter is essential to be a part of democracy and voters have an important role in building a strong democracy. He was addressing as the chief guest at the district level function of National Voters Day at Swami Sarvanand Giri Regional Center, Punjab University on Saturday. During this, SDM Hoshiarpur Sanjeev Sharma was also present with him. On this occasion, Regional Center Director Dr. HS Bains welcomed the guests.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that in today's program, children from schools and colleges told about the strong democracy of India and the importance of voting through cultural programs, poetry and drama. He extended his greetings to the district residents on the occasion of National Voters Day and invited them to use their vote in the upcoming elections. He said that India is the largest democratic country in the world and the role of voters has been immense in making it successful.
He said that young voters should not only exercise their own vote but also motivate others to vote because the right to vote is a very important right. He said that it is very important for all of us to participate in the festival of democracy and we should exercise our rights on the basis of our land without any greed. During the program, the message issued by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on National Voters' Day was also shown through a projector.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner congratulated all the officers and employees involved in the election process and said that they are engaged in the work of voter registration throughout the year and conduct the elections with full dedication when they come. On this occasion, he gave voter identity cards to new voters and honored young voters. Earlier, he also administered oath to the officers present on the occasion of National Voters' Day.
During this, Nicas Kumar honored SDM Garhshankar Harbans Singh as the Best ERO, Assistant Professor PUSSGRC Vinay Kumar Arora as the Best Nodal Officer for Colleges and BLO Yograj of Assembly constituency Garhshankar as the Best BLO. Apart from this, other officers and employees who played a vital role in the election process were also honored.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner honored the students who participated in quiz, slogan, speech, essay and painting competitions, besides the students who presented cultural programs. During this, Nukar Natak, Geet, Bhand Kala, War Gayan, Bolian, Bhangra and Giddha were also performed regarding voter awareness.
