Hoshiarpur - Powercom and Transco Contract Employees Union Punjab today protested against the recruitment of retired employees by the Punjab government and Powercom management and not including outsourced workers directly in the department. Sharing information, State President Balihar Singh, State General Secretary Rajesh Mor, Assistant Secretary Tek Chand Circle President Sukhpal Singh, Gurmeet Singh Ajay Kumar said that the Punjab government and Powercom management are continuously intensifying the privatization offensive. Instead of regularizing outsourced contract workers and recruiting new ones, letters are being issued to recruit retired employees.
He said that today the workers were not regularized because CHB, CHW, and CHH workers have a big contribution in maintaining the supply of electricity. While restoring the power supply, many workers died and many workers became disabled to whom the government neither guaranteed compensation nor guaranteed jobs. The accident victim families are continuously struggling. Today, the contract workers demanded that all outsourcing contract workers be directly included in the department and minimum living wage be fixed, and all the demands in the demand letter including guaranteeing permanent jobs and compensation and pension to the accident victim families were demanded.
Today, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema held a meeting at the Guest House in Sangrur. In the meeting, he assured to resolve the demands of the workers and promised to call the Power Minister and Labor Minister for a meeting on December 23, 2024 to resolve the issues. The organization postponed the program of December 12, 2024 and will hold a protest in Mohali/Chandigarh along with their families on January 2, 2025.
