
Extempore speech competition organized in Punjab University on the occasion of 'World Hindi Day'
Chandigarh, January 20, 2025- Today, on January 20, 2025, an extempore speech competition was organized under the joint aegis of Hindi Department, Punjab University, Chandigarh and Bank of Baroda on the occasion of 'World Hindi Day'. Research scholars of the department, MA students and students of translation diploma participated in the competition.
Chandigarh, January 20, 2025- Today, on January 20, 2025, an extempore speech competition was organized under the joint aegis of Hindi Department, Punjab University, Chandigarh and Bank of Baroda on the occasion of 'World Hindi Day'. Research scholars of the department, MA students and students of translation diploma participated in the competition.
The program started with the formal welcome of all by the Head of the Hindi Department, Prof. Ashok Kumar. Dr. Ali Abbas, Chairman of Urdu Department and Dr. Tomir Sharma from Sanskrit Department were present as the jury in the program. Also, Bank of Baroda officials Promila Goyat (Chief Manager Official Language, Zonal Office) and Ankesh Kumari (Regional Manager, Official Language, Regional Office, Chandigarh) were also present.
Promila Goyat, while highlighting the objective of the competition, said that its objective is to promote Hindi language and to encourage speaking skills among students through the competition.
The participants included Abhishek Pandey, Pooja Sharma, Neha, Rachna, Pawan of MA second year; Kajal, Himanshu, Shweta of MA first year, Mukesh of translation-diploma; research scholars Samun, Kiran, Rishabh, Rahul, Vishal Singh Banga, Priyanka and Rahul Kumar.
The participants presented their views on many relevant, interesting and useful topics like World Hindi Day, natural disaster, ill effects of social media, cyber crime, exercise and health, my first train journey, joint and single family, features of our city, pollution, positive aspects of social media, digital banking, global warming, inspirational incident of life. Bank officials shared information related to the bank. They discussed mobile banking, digital fraud, alertness against digital arrest etc. Bank of Baroda's commitment towards promotion and propagation of Hindi language was also put before everyone. After this, the decision was announced.
First prize was received by Pawan Sharma (MA 2nd year), second prize by Rishabh (researcher), third prize by Pooja of MA 2nd year and consolation prize by Rahul Kumar (researcher) and Rahul (researcher).
In the end, Head of the Department Prof. Ashok Kumar thanked everyone and said that such programs provide special opportunities for self-confidence and speaking skills in students, which everyone should take advantage of. The program was hosted by researcher Rahul Kumar.
