PGIMER takes another Pioneering Step Deploys NSS Volunteers to streamline Patient Rush under Project Sarathi

PGIMER continues its legacy of innovation in healthcare with the launch of Project Sarathi, a collaborative effort aimed at streamlining patient rush within its premises. In this pioneering initiative, PGIMER has partnered with the National Service Scheme (NSS) to deploy volunteers who will play a crucial role in managing patient flow and enhancing overall hospital experience. Project Sarathi, derived from the Sanskrit word for "guide" or "charioteer,"
aims to address the increasing challenges posed by the rising influx of patients seeking medical attention at PGIMER. Prof. Vivek Lal, Director PGIMER, while addressing the delegates at the Launch Ceremony of Project Sarathi, enthusiastically endorsed the initiative, underlining the institution's unwavering commitment to prioritizing patient welfare. "With an annual influx of 30 lakh patients, our manpower often falls short in managing the rush. Hence, we decided to involve volunteers, and engaging NSS volunteers seemed the most fitting choice to pilot this project."

Prof. Vivek Lal further expressed satisfaction, stating, "I am pleased to see the implementation of this idea, inspired by the successful practice at a US Hospital, proposed by DDA PGIMER; Mr. Pankaj Rai and I foresee immense potential for this small initiative to evolve into a significant movement in the times ahead." Quoting the timeless melody from the movie "Anari," 'kisi ki muskurahato pe ho nisar,' the Director emphasized that compassion stands as the ultimate antidote to burnout and frustration.

Lauding the initiative, Ms.Madhu Mann, Nodal Officer NSS,Government Polytechnic College for Women, Sector-10, Chandigarh, remarked, "Aligned with the NSSmotto, 'Not Me, But You,' the students will gain invaluable real-life experience through their involvement at PGIMER. There is no better education incompassion and social responsibility than thisfirsthand experience.”

The highpoint of the Launch Ceremony was the sincere feedback from student volunteers Prachi and Aman. Echoing the sentiments of all, theysaid, "Through this 7-day experience, we've learned the essence of patienceand the intrinsic joy of selflessly helping others without any ulterior motive."

The Launch Ceremony culminated with the distribution of certificates to allstudent volunteers by the Director, PGIMER, accompanied by dignitaries present on the occasion.
