The 7th National Workshop on "Pharmacogenomics: Basics to Advanced" concluded successfully at the Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, under the stewardship of Professor Bikash Medhi (Organizing Chairman), spanning from the 10th to the 12th of May 2024.
The 7th National Workshop on "Pharmacogenomics: Basics to Advanced" concluded successfully at the Department of Pharmacology, PGIMER, Chandigarh, under the stewardship of Professor Bikash Medhi (Organizing Chairman), spanning from the 10th to the 12th of May 2024.
The workshop was strategically designed to delve into key aspects including Primer Designing, DNA Extraction, RNA Extraction, Agarose Gel Electrophoresis, Sanger Sequencing, Next Generation Sequencing, Haplotype, Linkage Analysis, Statistical Issues in Pharmacogenomics, and Functional Analysis of SNP. Emphasizing evidence-based practices, safety protocols, quality control measures, drug interactions, and regulatory compliance, the workshop drew participation from 32 delegates representing esteemed institutions across 11 states and 1 Union territory of India, convening in an offline mode.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with a cordial welcome address delivered by Professor Bikash Medhi, the Organizing Chairman. Distinguished luminaries including Professor YK Gupta (President, AIIMS Bhopal/Jammu), Padmashri Professor R C Sobti (Ex-Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University), and Dr.Ajay Prakash (Organizing Secretary) graced the occasion and officially inaugurated the workshop.
The scientific sessions of the training program featured insightful lectures from eminent experts; such as Professor Ingolf Cascorbi (President, IUPHAR), Professor Bikash Medhi (PGIMER, Chandigarh), Dr.Ajay Prakash (PGIMER, Chandigarh), Dr.Deepti Malik (AIIMS Bilaspur), Dr.Kanishk Tomar (Thermo Fisher Scientific), Dr.Nitya Nand Sharma (Illumina), and Dr.Phulen Sarma (AIIMS Guwahati). Case Studies were discussed by Dr.Kumaravel J, Dr.Gurjeet Kaur, and Dr.Subodh Kumar. Hands-on workshops were meticulously organized to facilitate practical learning experiences encompassing DNA/RNA extraction and quantification, Primer designing, cDNA synthesis, Sanger sequencing, and NGS.
The Valedictory Function featured Professor Sanjay Kumar Bhadada (PGIMER, Chandigarh) as the esteemed guest. Professor Bikash Medhi, the Organizing Chairman, delivered the comprehensive workshop report, while Dr.Ajay Prakash collated feedback from the participants. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks extended by Dr.Ajay Prakash, expressing gratitude to all contributors and participants for their invaluable contributions and active engagement throughout the event.
