Discussion held on song collection 'Pohli de Phool'.

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, May 7: Swapan Foundation, Patiala (regd) organized a discussion on the song collection 'Pohli de Phool' by famous poet Dharm Kameana on 07.05.2025 in the premises of the office of District Language Officer, SAS Nagar. Research Officer Dr. Darshan Kaur welcomed the guests and the audience and informed the audience about the purpose of the discussion.

He said that we are proud to be a part of such a high-level event. He also shared some things about the song collection. After this, poet Surjit Suman and others started the discussion and said that social issues have been raised seriously in this song collection.
While chairing the discussion on the song collection 'Pohli de Phool', eminent critic Dr. Rajinderpal Brar shared the history of song writing and shared many things about the backwardness of the song. Talking about Dharam Kameana's song writing, he said that Dharam's poetry has a blend of emotion and passion. He further said that it is wrong to say that songs are just a flow of emotions and there is no thought in it.
He said that Dharam has a natural melody and rhythm which makes his songs more listenable. Dharam Kameana, the author of the song collection, said that it is not easy to build a fortress of literature. He spoke in detail about his literary life. He explained many aspects of life to the students with examples. In the end, he also sang some songs in Tarunam. Chief Guest Prof. Atai Singh talked about the historical perspective of Punjabi song writing.
He further said that Dharam Kameana is actually a poet, he came to song writing later. He also shared many untouched points of Kameana's song writing. Delivering the keynote address of the program, Dr. Veerpal Kaur Sidhu, eminent critic of Punjabi University, said that Dharam Kameana's songs have been sung by almost all the leading singers. He said that Kamina is a humanist poet, he is a poet who presents rural culture with great artistry.
He further said that 'Pohli De Phool' pricks even the thorns and gives the touch of a flower. Prof. Jalore Singh Khiva, while talking about his friendly relations with Dharam Kamina, revealed many secrets of his creation. Special guest of the program Harvinder Singh expressed his concern towards the song and said that the song is connected to our fate, we have forgotten it with the advent of other literary poetic genres. He further said that Dharam is a more recent poet of the people. At the end of the program, Dr. Kulpinder Sharma, President of Swapna Foundation, Patiala (Regd.) thanked all the guests.
He further said that soon a big seminar on lyricism will be organized by his forum. The forum was conducted by the General Secretary of the Foundation and writer Jagdeep Sidhu. Local poets Gurdev Chauhan, Pal Ajnabi, Gurdeep Singh, Mandar Gill, Pyara Singh Rahi, Labh Singh Lehli, Dharminder Sekhon, Dhyan Singh Kahlon, Lakshmi Sidhu, singer Pawandeep, Bhupinder Malik, Hazara Singh Cheema etc. participated in this program. On this occasion, a book exhibition was also organized by the District Language Officer Office SAS Nagar.
