Nawanshahr, May 4 - On behalf of the Kirti Kisan Union, District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, a meeting was held with AAP MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi of Banga constituency and MLA Nachhattar Pal of Nawanshahr constituency for the needs of Punjab's water; and in the session of the Vidhan Sabha specially called by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on May 5, a memorandum was submitted to MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi and Nachhattar Pal by the Kirti Kisan Union, District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, in order to save Punjab's water.
In the memorandum, the decision of the Bhakra Beas Management Board to give additional water to Haryana by unilaterally imposing pressure should be based on the decision of the states to pass a resolution to repeal the Dam Safety Act during a special session; The issue of river water should be resolved according to the riparian principle that is valid all over the world; The water flowing from the Sharda river should be used to meet the water needs of Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh.
The Central Government should release the necessary financial budget in this regard after discussing with the concerned states. The Central Government should provide a financial package of two lakh crores for the conservation and use of the water flowing from the Ravi river to Pakistan. The Punjab Government should make financial arrangements for the budget to provide clean drinking water to every farm and house.
