Punjab government issues 'Minimum Wage List' with 3-month delay and insignificant increase

Nawanshahr/Rahon: National Labor Organization (NLO) Convener Baldev Bharti State Awardee said that the Punjab government's labor department has issued a new minimum wage list to fix the value of labor by increasing the wages of workers by a significant amount. This list was issued with a delay of about 3 months, while it was to be issued in September 2024.

This list was issued with a delay of about 3 months, while it was to be issued in September 2024. 
Similarly, the list to be issued during March 2024 was also issued with a delay of 6 months. Baldev Bharti said that the statistics branch of the Punjab government's labor department issues a list regarding the increase in the wages of workers in different sectors twice during the financial year under the 'Minimum Wages Act-1948' in the beginning of the months of March and September. This list fixes the wages of uneducated, semi-educated and educated workers working in agriculture, kiln industry, industries and various other establishments. It is a legal offence to pay wages less than the wages fixed in this list.
 Referring to this new minimum wage list, he said that from 01 September 2024, the daily wage has been fixed at Rs 422.92 for uneducated workers, Rs 452.92 for semi-educated workers, Rs 487.42 for educated workers, Rs 527.11 for higher educated workers, Rs 396.77 for agricultural workers with food and Rs 441.12 without food.
