Important role of educational institutions in youth voter registration

Therefore, with a view to making special efforts to identify young and prospective voters and improve their registration, a dedicated Assistant Electoral Registration Officer has been appointed for each of the 68 Assembly constituencies.

Therefore, with a view to making special efforts to identify young and prospective voters and improve their registration, a dedicated Assistant Electoral Registration Officer has been appointed for each of the 68 Assembly constituencies. Educational institutions have an important role to play in greater registration of young/prospective voters, especially in the age group of 18-19.
Giving this information, District Election Officer Raghav Sharma said that 68 dedicated Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will be registering potential voters at the level of recognized educational institutions of their respective assembly constituencies. Will hold regular meetings with Electoral Literacy Clubs and sensitize them about the nomination process and deadlines for filing applications for registration.
Raghav Sharma said that Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will organize special camps during the revision activities in educational institutions, so as to make voters aware about the registration process and make them aware about NVSP. VHA/VP etc. to encourage filing of advance claims for registration as elector through online portal.
He informed that Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will encourage online submission of applications, whereas in cases where online submission of application is not possible due to internet access or any other reason, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will assist the applicant in filling the application. . Applications received in offline Form-6 will be digitized and forwarded to ERO for further necessary action. Will be sent to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer through net. For this purpose, each dedicated Assistant Electoral Registration Officer will be provided with a log-in ID.
He said that dedicated Assistant Electoral Registration Officers will maintain institute-wise quarterly data of the format received in educational institutions. This will help in improving the percentage of registration and formulating strategies.
