PM Modi awarded the 5G Use Case Lab to PEC, Chandigarh

During the inaugural ceremony of Indian Mobile Congress - 2023 5G Use Case Lab has been awarded to Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh by has been awarded Honorable Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi Ji on 27th October, 2023 through Live video conferencing across the country today.

During the inaugural ceremony of Indian Mobile Congress - 2023 5G Use Case Lab has been awarded to Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh by has been awarded Honorable Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi Ji on 27th October, 2023 through Live video conferencing across the country today. This Live Mobile Congress was attended by more than 350 students along with Prof. Baldev Setia, Director, PEC; Col R M Joshi, Registrar; Dr. D. R. Prajapati, (Dean Student Affairs); Prof. Arun K. Singh, (Head, SRIC); and all the members of PEC faculty. 

While addressing the gathering, Prof. Baldev Setia, Director, PEC, congratulated all of the faculty members and students for such an achievement. He said that we as PEC should feel proud, that we are aligning with the National Mission of the country. He also told the youngsters to feel grateful for being able to listen to such dignitaries. 

The Government would be funding 80% of CAPEX for the Lab Setup and 100% of OPEX expenses for the next 4 years. The 5G lab will be equipped with 5G SA infrastructure (mid band), 5G SIMs, Dongles, IoT Gateway, Router and Application Server.
This lab was successfully felicilated to Prof. Arun K. Singh and team of SRIC, PEC. 

Deptt. of Electronics and Communication Engineering, PEC has also been selected under the first 30 cohort of institutions for Semiconductor Research under Chips to Startup (C2S) Program under IndianSemiconductor Mission which was announced by the honorable Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi Ji in the recent past. The developed facilities will augment the research facilities of the 5G Labs.     

The 5 labs will develop the competencies and engagement in 5G technologies for faculty, students & startup communities for the development, experimentation of 5G applications in various socioeconomic verticals. The use cases could span across socioeconomic verticals including education, agriculture, health, power, urban management, mining, logistics, resource management, tourism, sports, security, e-governance etc.

Further 5G Labs will help in making Indian Academia and startup ecosystem 6G ready.
