Nawanshahr, April 23 - The land touched by the feet of Guru Ravidass Maharaj, the touch of Ganga, the land, today at Sri Khuralgarh Sahib, under the chairmanship of the President of the Guru Ghar Committee, Sant Surinder Das, with the support of all the committee members and the congregation, the death anniversary of the founder of Adi Dharm, Gadari warrior Babu Mangu Ram Mugowaliya was celebrated and tributes were paid to him.
Speaking on the occasion, President Sant Surinder Das, Principal Saroop Chand, Chairman Nazar Ram Mann, PL Sood, Babu Mangu Ram's grandson Manjit Mugowal, Sant Girdhari Lal and Rajesh Kumar and Pawan Kumar who came from Hisar, Haryana said that Babu Mangu Ram Mugowal, a contemporary of Baba Sahib, came to India at a time when the Adi Dharam Mandal movement was at its peak and the Simon Commission came to India to see the condition of the oppressed and downtrodden people. Which was strongly opposed by the opponents, at that time Babu Mangu Ram Mugowal arrived at the railway station along with his 3 colleagues to welcome the Simon Commission and a memorandum was given to him regarding the condition of the deprived people. After this, in the Act made in 1935, the right to become MLA and MP was obtained after the municipalities. He said that it is not enough here, when Mahatma Gandhi was on a fast unto death in Jabardast Jail against double voting, Babu Mangu Ram Mugowalia fasted unto death in Shimla with his Jalandhar colleague Jani Lal. He also had a big hand in giving 8 seats in the Parliament to Punjab. At that time, 9 MLAs were elected for the first time and sent to the Lahore Assembly. At that time, Babu Mangu Ram Mugowalia entered the Lahore Assembly carrying a chair on his head, and the elected representatives said, Babu ji, what is the matter, why did you carry a chair on your head? Then Babu ji replied that I do not have a place to keep a chair, my society does not even have the right to buy land. At that time, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar and Babu Mangu Ram Mugowalia fought equally for the rights of the poor and oppressed and gave all the rights to the poor. When Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar was announced a grant of 5 lakh rupees for the poor and Babasaheb was asked by the journalists at that time where he would spend this 5 lakh rupees, Babasaheb's answer was that the daughters of my society do not have clothes and the slums are dirty. The society was starving, contrary to all this, he said that with this 5 lakh he would open a school and college, when the children of the society become literate, he would arrange for food, clothes and housing himself, and at that time he opened a college in Mumbai from where even today the children are getting higher education and getting high positions. Sant Surinder Das also presented important facts about the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919 before the congregation, who were the people who gathered at that time, why the gathering was held and the reasons for it were given in detail, after listening to which the congregation was forced to think why these facts had not come to their attention till date.
