Seminar organised in school to create awareness about leprosy

Patiala, February 7- Under the directions of Civil Surgeon D. Sarkar Jagpalinder Singh, a seminar was organised in High School Gandhi Colony under the Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign activity. Speaking on this, Supervisor Kuldeep Kaur said that leprosy is caused by a special bacteria called Mycobacterium Leprae Bacilli.

Physical disability can be avoided by getting proper treatment of this disease at the right time. The patient has to continue the treatment for 6 months to 1 year depending on the disease. If a person has light copper coloured numb spots on any part of the skin, cold and cough are not detected and the veins become thick and hard, then a doctor should be consulted in the nearest health institution.
He said that the treatment of this disease is available in all government hospitals, health centres and government dispensaries. Multi Drug Therapy (MDT) is given absolutely free in India. On this occasion, Anita Rani LHV, Randhir Kaur ANM, Shaminder and Meena Rani Asha workers and school staff members were present.
