Nawanshahr- Betiyon ki Lohri was celebrated today at Tehsil premises Nawanshahr under the leadership of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Avneet Kaur and SDM Dr. Akshita Gupta. During this function jointly organized by SDM and Tehsil office, Vice Chairman of Punjab Technical Education Board Lalit Mohan Pathak specially attended, while employees of both the offices, Deputy Commissioner Office, Service Center and other departments were also present.
On this occasion, Lalit Mohan Pathak said that today girls are not less in any matter and they are successfully representing in every field of society. Therefore, people should abandon wrong thinking like female foeticide and respect girls. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Avneet Kaur said on this occasion that women empowerment is possible only when girls develop themselves through education and live with their heads held high in the society by becoming financially independent. Similarly, other speakers also called for giving love and opportunities to daughters to move forward like sons.
During this, the celebrations were started by lighting Lohri in the traditional way amidst the fragrance of peanuts and riodia and the entire tehsil premises reverberated with the sound of Gidda-Bhangra and Lohri songs on the beat of drums. On this occasion, gifts were also given to newborn girls and their mothers. Senior councilor Chet Ram Ratan made a special contribution in this event. 
On this occasion, District Revenue Officer Mandeep Singh Mann, Tehsildar Nawanshahr Parveen Chhibber, Naib Tehsildar Vijay Kumar, Sushasan Sathi Asmita Parmar, Superintendent Harvinder Singh, Superintendent Bahadur Singh, PA-to-DC Jasbir Singh and other dignitaries were present.
