Powercom Outsourcing Contract Workers Submit Memorandum of Demands to Education Minister Harjot Bains

Hoshiarpur- Powercom & Transco Contract Workers Union Punjab submitted a memorandum of demand and protest notice to Education Minister Harjot Bains upon his arrival in Hoshiarpur. The Minister assured that the demands would be resolved in the meeting to be held with the organization on February 6, 2025. Sharing information with the press, Hoshiarpur Circle President Inderpreet Singh said that they are continuously struggling against the Punjab government and Power Com management for their rightful and legitimate demands such as direct inclusion of outsourcing contract workers in the department, implementation of minimum living wage as per 1948 Act, guaranteeing permanent job pension to workers who died and became disabled due to electrocution, rejection of privatization policy, and achieving all the demands in the demand letter.

During the struggle, a meeting was held with the Finance Minister and Power Com management officials in Chandigarh in the past, which was assigned the duty of the Power Secretary Government of Punjab to resolve the demands by the Finance Minister and the Board Management. In which the Power Secretary and the Power Com management assured to sit with the workers' organization and resolve the demands. And the proposal to resolve the demands was to be put forward in the meeting to be held on 16 January 2025 under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema and the Power Minister.
But the meeting of 16 January 2025 was postponed to 6 February by Finance Minister Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema and the Power Minister, due to which there is also a huge protest among the contract workers. The contract workers today submitted a memorandum to the Finance Minister and said that in case the demands are not resolved on 6 February 2025, the organization will be forced to hold a state-level dharna on 7 February 2025 along with families and children. Because a continuous dharna demonstration has been given in front of the head office of Power Community from 17 January 2025 to 22 February 2025 regarding their pending demands, which Power Community has also assured to resolve the demands.
