
Over Rs 48 crore credited to farmers' accounts as compensation for crops damaged during floods: JIMPA
Chandigarh, September 12 Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Minister Bram Shankar Jimpa has said that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has paid Rs 48 crore 26 lakh 62 thousand 352 as compensation for the crops damaged due to floods till September 11. The amount has been deposited in the bank accounts of the farmers.

The amount has been deposited in the bank accounts of the farmers.
He said that the Chief Minister had released an amount of 188 crore 62 lakh 63 thousand rupees to the revenue department to give relief money to the farmers for the damage of paddy and other crops. He said that this is the first time that a government is giving a compensation amount of Rs 6800 per acre for damaged paddy fields.
He said that Rs 33.50 crore was released as advance relief as soon as reports of flood risk were received in the month of July. After this, relief money has been released to the affected districts from time to time.
The Minister said that instructions have already been issued to all the Deputy Commissioners that the relief money should be distributed to the eligible farmers in a transparent and hassle-free manner. Apart from this, there should be no recommendation or favoring of influential people regarding compensation and only compensation should be given to the right person on the basis of merit.
He said that according to the reports received from different districts, 25 crore 22 lakh 73 thousand 942 rupees have been deposited in the bank accounts of the affected farmers of Patiala district, 7 crore 35 lakh 38 thousand 856 rupees to the farmers of Sangrur district, 5 crore 9 rupees in Ferozepur. lakh 3028 rupees, 5 crore 6 lakh 9285 rupees in Jalandhar, 5 crore 42 lakh 44 thousand 331 rupees in Tarn Taran, 4 crore 74 lakh 8871 rupees in Mansa, 1 crore 36 lakh 64 thousand 615 rupees in Fazilka and farmers of Fateh Sahibgarh district.
