Proper nutrition and vaccination are important for the health of horses - Veterinary expert.

Ludhiana 14 August 2025- The Directorate of Extension Education of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a discussion seminar for horse breeders of Punjab. Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director Extension Education said that this seminar was organized under the leadership of Dr. Jatinder Pal Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor to educate horse breeders about horse breeding and nutrition in a scientific manner.

Ludhiana 14 August 2025- The Directorate of Extension Education of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organized a discussion seminar for horse breeders of Punjab. Dr. Ravinder Singh Grewal, Director Extension Education said that this seminar was organized under the leadership of Dr. Jatinder Pal Singh Gill, Vice-Chancellor to educate horse breeders about horse breeding and nutrition in a scientific manner.
He said that by raising horses in a proper manner, the economy of Punjab farmers can be further improved. Dr. Grewal informed that apart from the speeches of experts, a 'Horse Health Card' was also presented to the public in the seminar.
This card was prepared by a team of Dr. Prabhjinder Singh Mann, Dr. Arunbir Singh, Dr. Prateek Jindal and Dr. Vishal Mahajan. Dr Grewal said that this health card is a unique initiative of the university which can keep a record of vaccination of 20 horses. Along with this, the physical condition of the animal, physical parameters and other important indicators of the health of the horses will also be provided.
Dr. Ramesh Kumar Didar, Principal Scientist, National Institute of Equine Research, Bikaner, attended the seminar as a special guest. He spoke about the health of horses and improvements in dietary management.
He said that proper nutritional diet and vaccination are the key to good health of horses. He made the audience aware of the important physiological parameters related to the assessment of the health of horses. Dr. Amit Sharma gave detailed information about the diet of horses.
He highlighted the importance of balanced ration for good health. He also said that horses have different nutritional requirements due to their growth and being a running animal, hence it is very important to focus on their physical condition for planning their diet.
He also said that the university can provide guidance in preparing diets for all age groups of horses. The seminar was organized by Dr. Prabhjinder Singh Mann and Dr. Arunbir Singh in which about 70 horse breeders and students participated.
