Bank managers to monitor cash deposit/withdrawal and movement during elections - District Election Officer

Nawanshahr - District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Navjot Pal Singh Randhawa urged the bank managers to be vigilant during the Lok Sabha Elections-2024 and said to stop illegal expenditure by candidates and political parties in the elections. Banks can make a huge contribution. He said that all the banks will oblige their branches to provide the necessary facility of opening election bank accounts to the candidates on a first-come first-served basis.

  He said that any expenditure of more than 10 thousand rupees by the candidates will be done through cheque, draft, RTGS. He said that deposits or withdrawals of more than one lakh rupees from the account of a political party or their relative or spouse during the election process, which appears unusual or suspicious, should be immediately reported to the District Election Office. The District Election Officer said that if the amount of cash deposited or withdrawn from any bank account is above 10 lakh rupees, then the information should also be sent to the District Election Office so that this information is sent to the nodal officer of the Income Tax Department. Appropriate and necessary action may be taken as per law.
He said that the banks will ensure that the cash vans of the outsourced agencies/companies which carry the cash of the banks will not under any circumstances carry the cash of any third party/agency or individual except from the banks. In this regard, the outsourced agencies/companies will carry the ESMS and QR receipt issued by the bank. In which there will be details of cash/drivers etc. issued by banks and full details of these cash vans for depositing money in ATMs or for paying money in other branches of the bank or in other banks or in currency cash will be given.
The District Election Officer said that the officers/employees of cash vans of outsourced agencies/companies will be issued identity cards regularly by their respective agencies. If any officer appointed by the Election Commission intercepts the cash van of an outsourced agency/company during the inspection, it will be necessary to cooperate.
