Patiala, April 1 - Today, speculations about former AAP MP Dr Dharamvir Gandhi turned into reality when he joined the Congress. He also merged his new Punjab Party with the Congress at the Congress Party headquarters in Delhi. Dharamvir Gandhi became Member of Parliament from Patiala on AAP ticket in 2014. He defeated Praneet Kaur by a margin of 20942 votes. Dr. Gandhi is the only leader who defeated Praneet Kaur, daughter-in-law of Patiala's royal family and wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, in her political career. After joining the Congress, Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi said - "I did not join the Congress to contest the Lok Sabha elections, but if the party puts him on the field, he is ready to fight."
  He further said - I want to defeat Praneet Kaur because she is a BJP candidate. They chose such a party which is anti-people and anti-democratic. After Praneet Kaur joined the BJP, the Congress was looking for an effective face for the Patiala seat. It is very likely that the party will announce him as its candidate from Patiala. Dr Gandhi is originally from Patiala and has a good influence in the area. He is capable of giving a good fight to BJP from Patiala seat. He is a cardiologist by profession. His image is also made as a social worker. They also help the poor and needy. Joined Anna Hazare's movement in 2012 and joined Aam Aadmi Party from there. In 2016, he left AAP and formed Nawaan Punjab Party. In 2019, Dr. Gandhi contested the Lok Sabha elections again but this time he could not defeat Praneet Kaur and came third.
