
MCMC will keep a close eye on paid news

District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal said that as per the guidelines of the Election Commission, Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) has been constituted at the district level to keep a close watch on paid news in the Lok Sabha elections. The Media Certification and Monitoring Committee has started its work as soon as the code of conduct came into force. This information was given by the Deputy Commissioner while presiding over the MCMC meeting held on Sunday.
He said that MCMC will keep a close watch on the advertisements and news published and broadcast in all newspapers, radio, TV, e-paper, bulk messages and social media. He said that for giving advertisement, it is mandatory for the candidate to obtain pre-certification from the district level MCMC. He said that if any candidate gets paid news published in any media, then a notice will be sent to the concerned candidate by the Returning Officer. It will be mandatory for the candidate to answer within the prescribed period. The District Level MCMC will take a decision on the candidate's answer. He said that if paid news is declared, it will be included in the election expenses of the candidate. While directing the MCMC committee, he said that if any kind of paid news or complaint is received, the committee should take immediate action. He also asked all political parties to submit applications to MCMC three days in advance for certification of advertisements in print, electronic and social media.
