Patiala, October 24: Basmati variety of paddy is cultivated in about a dozen villages of Dudhansadha sub-division of Patiala district, where farmers mix the stubble in the fields through natural mulching method without burning and apply last water to the paddy.  Wheat is threshed on time without using machinery.
Giving information in this regard, Agriculture Development Officer of Dudhansadha block of Agriculture Department, Dr. Vimalpreet Singh said that farmers in Khansa, Ratta Kheda, Mehtabgarh, Roshanpur, Khatoli, Budh Mod, Kalamgarh, Jodhpur, Binjal, Mahmoodpur Roorkee, Dudhan Gujra, Rohar Jangid, Lahar Jangid villages of Dudhnasadhan sub-division, especially when Basmati paddy is the last crop. Is. Water is applied and wheat is sprinkled in the fields by the farmers at that time. After that, when the paddy is ripe, it is harvested by hand.
He said that the farmers who plant Basmati and sprinkle wheat in the standing paddy crop do not set fire to the fields because the wheat has already germinated in them i.e. the wheat has grown up and is almost visible and after that Paddy or Basmati. At the time of harvesting this wheat is first watered and urea and DAP are mixed before watering. He said that standing stubble or straw mixed with water acts as a natural mulcher.
The agriculture officer said that this method is quite successful in heavy land where it takes time to absorb water. He said that this increases the fertility of the land and the use of fertilizers in this land is also very less.
