Three Days Capacity Building Workshop for 150 women Functionaries of DAY-NULM, MC, Chandigarh concluded at Centre for Human Rights and Duties, PU

Chandigarh, 27 February 2025- The Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University Chandigarh organised a three days “Capacity Building Workshop for Functionaries of Area Federation/City level federation under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. The workshop commenced on February 24, 2025 and concluded here today.

Chandigarh, 27 February 2025- The Centre for Human Rights and Duties, Panjab University Chandigarh organised a three days “Capacity Building Workshop for Functionaries of Area Federation/City level federation under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. The workshop commenced on February 24, 2025 and concluded here today.
The workshop had a participation of 150 women (50 women each day) who have formed Self-Help Groups (SHG) under DAY-NULM scheme run by Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.
Prof. Namita Gupta, Chairperson, Centre for Human Rights and Duties and Convener of the workshop stated that the purpose of the workshop is to make women aware about their rights and to empower them focusing particularly on importance of Self-Help to generate employment.
Sessions on women’s health and well-being; women rights and legal safeguards, Social Entrepreneurship and how to make Self-Help Groups sustainable were organised during the workshop.
Dr Manjushri Sharma spoke at length on need of physical health, mental health and social health among women. She focused on the importance of use of “Super-Food” like millets for the physical growth of women.
Dr Upneet Kaur Mangat spoke on various aspects of women rights focusing on domestic violence, physical abuse, psychological abuse and verbal abuse prevalent in the society.
Dr Paramjit Singh discussed several government schemes which are helpful like Make in India, Start up India, Stand up India, Digital India and Skill India.
Dr Anu H.Gupta explained the importance of selecting a proper brand name, design of logo, its color preference, packaging, labeling of product in addition to foolproof marketing strategy, price determination keeping in view human psychology.
Dr. Ameer Sultana discussed various basic rights provided by the Constitution of India. She also threw light on several efforts made by the centre-state government to remove discrimination in the society.
The women SHGs also showcased their products such as bags, aggarbattis, home décor products at student Centre for sale. The purpose of the exercise was to mobilise them to cooperate with each other and to be economically independent, said Dr Manjulla Verma, Co-Convener of the workshop.
