Kolkata, June 27 - A student was allegedly raped by a former student inside a Kolkata law college, while two senior students of the educational institution helped the main accused in this act. This information was given by a police officer on Friday.
The police arrested the three accused and produced them in the court, which sent them to police custody for four days. The police said that the process of recording the victim's confidential statement before a judicial magistrate was also underway.
The horrific incident at the South Calcutta Law College has revived the horrific memories of the rape and murder of an intern inside the city's temporary medical college in August last year, which also created a huge stir politically.
College sources said that the main accused in the recent incident is a former student of the college and surprisingly, he is practicing as a criminal lawyer in Alipore Police and Sessions Court. Police confirmed that the other two accused are students of the same institution and are seniors of the victim.
The social media handles of the main accused revealed that he is the former president of the college's Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad unit and the organising secretary of the South Kolkata wing of the TMC student body.
