Pushpinder, leader of Factory Workers Union Chandigarh and Naujawan Bharat Sabha's Manav and Nikki addressed the conference. Punjab Students Union (Lalkar) also participated in the programme.
The speakers spoke about the historical importance of May Day, the situation in the country and the world and the challenges faced by the working class. During the programme, a programme of revolutionary songs and dramas was presented. Ankit conducted the stage very well.
In the end, a flag march was also taken out in the area. During the conference, the speakers said that May Day is a symbol of the struggles of the workers. Every year on May 1, May Day is celebrated all over the world in memory of the labour martyrs who sacrificed themselves for the historic struggle and other rights of the workers under the slogan of 'eight hours of work, eight hours of rest and eight hours of entertainment'. The ideas of the martyrs of May Day, their martyrdom, their life are a source of inspiration for the exploited people.
Whatever legal rights the workers have got all over the world and in India, they have been received not by the charity of the capitalist class but due to the united militant struggle of the working class and the unmatched martyrdom of our ancestors. Whenever the government and the capitalists see the unity of the workers in a weak state, they attack our rights. The speakers said that today seeing the weak state of the labour movement in India, the capitalist class is making a sharp economic and political attack on the workers. The basic legal labour rights of the workers are also being snatched away. The Modi government has made a big attack on the working class in the form of four labour codes.
Every government is implementing the policies of globalisation-liberalisation-privatisation on a large scale. Communal-fascist attacks are also increasing. To counter these attacks, the working class will have to form a large united force by joining hands with other workers. Coming forward to fight against all kinds of exploitation and injustice will be the true tribute to the martyrs of May Day.
