
Red Cross Integrated Drug Abuse Rehabilitation Centre, Nawanshahr celebrated ‘International Labour Day’.
Nawanshahr- International Labour Day was celebrated at Red Cross Drug Abuse Rehabilitation Centre, Nawanshahr, which was presided over by Project Director Chaman Singh ji. Addressing the gathering present on the occasion, he said that the movement started in America on 01 May 1886.

The workers united and raised their voice against the exploitation happening with them, in which seven workers died due to police firing. In this, the workers had demanded that after eight hours of work, there should be one holiday in a week. Workers from all over the world formed organizations and struggled and their demand was accepted. Therefore, remembering their struggle and sacrifice, ‘International Labour Day’ is celebrated from 01 May 1886.
He said that workers are still struggling with many problems. Today unemployment is increasing due to mechanization. Poor workers are falling prey to hunger as well as diseases. There are no proper arrangements for the safety of workers. On this occasion, Mr. Gurcharan Arora (Owner, A Plus Food Nawanshahr) said that we demand from the government that proper arrangements should be made to raise the standard of living of the workers. The laws made in favor of the workers should be strictly implemented and the government should reduce the gap between the rich and the poor.
On this occasion, he talked to the admitted patients and said that when we control our minds, we can overcome all the problems. Keeping in mind the health of the patients, he also gave protein related things. And he said that if any patient wants to work away from this bad company, he will be given work on priority basis.
On this occasion, Jaswinder Kaur (Councilor) also presented her views and said that celebrating this day is to remember the workers who gave their lives for this struggle and said that the government should increase the per capita income of the workers and the workers should be given all the facilities given by the government so that the standard of living of the working class can be raised. Kamaljit Kaur, Dinesh Kumar, Kamala Rani, Parvesh Kumar and the patients were present on this occasion.
