Hoshiarpur- In the coming days, there is a possibility of continuous increase in day temperature in the summer season. This time, a sharp increase in temperature is being seen in the initial season of summer. Regarding this, Civil Surgeon Dr. Pawan Kumar Shagotra has appealed to the people to take necessary steps to protect themselves from heat.
Appealing to the people to follow the advisory issued by the Health Department, Dr. Pawan Kumar said that this high temperature disrupts the body's temperature control mechanism and causes heat-related diseases. There is a high possibility of heat wave in the months of May and June and during this time, common people as well as people falling in the risk category need to be cautious.
He said that the symptoms of heat stroke include body temperature exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, unconsciousness/delirium, dizziness, dry and red skin, extreme weakness, severe headache, vomiting etc.
The civil surgeon said that in this situation it is necessary to provide first aid to the patient such as loosening and reducing clothes, taking him to a cool place, keeping ice/ice pack on the body, it is also very important to admit the patient immediately to the hospital so that the life of the patient can be saved with proper treatment. If possible, the patient should be taken to the hospital in an air-conditioned vehicle.
If there is a delay in taking the patient to the hospital, the situation can be risky. Dr. Pawan said that do not let there be a shortage of water in the body. Drink adequate amount of water in the summer season, always keep a water bottle with you. Lemonade, lassi, ORS and other liquids along with sugar and salt maintain the right amount of water in the body. Talking about this, Dr. Jagdeep Singh said that newborns and small children, pregnant women, elderly people of 65 years or more, obese people, mentally ill people, physically ill people, especially those who have heart disease or high blood pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, excessive alcohol consumption, laborers working in the sun, athletes, people who do not wear clothes according to the heat can be at a higher risk of heatstroke.
Dr. Jagdeep said that heatstroke can be avoided by taking special care of some things. For example, wear cotton and loose clothes that help keep the body cool through sweat. Avoid going out in the sun between 12 noon and 4 pm. Going out from a cold place to hot weather can be harmful.
Use an umbrella, hat, towel, turban or scarf to protect your head from direct sunlight. Do not go out barefoot, always wear shoes or slippers while going out in the sun. Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables like watermelon, orange, grapes, cucumber and tomato as they have high water content. Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated and extra sweetened drinks as these actually reduce body fluids. Wear sunglasses to protect the eyes. Be careful while sitting in vehicles parked in the sun for long periods.
