One day workshop on safe construction practices organized

Una, January 7- Under the joint aegis of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Una and Tata Steel, a one-day workshop was organized on Tuesday in the Zila Parishad Auditorium Una under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar to promote safe construction practices in view of earthquake prone zones 4 and 5.

Una, January 7- Under the joint aegis of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Una and Tata Steel, a one-day workshop was organized on Tuesday in the Zila Parishad Auditorium Una under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Mahendra Pal Gurjar to promote safe construction practices in view of earthquake prone zones 4 and 5. The main objective of the workshop was to spread awareness about safety standards in building construction and structural designs so that loss of life and economic loss can be reduced during natural disasters like earthquake, flood and other dangers. This workshop was the first workshop organized in the entire state on earthquake resistant building construction.
Additional Deputy Commissioner said that safe construction not only protects human life but also ensures long term sustainable development for the community. Along with this, he emphasized on following the National Building Code and other relevant standards in construction work. He said that such workshops should be organized in future as well so that safe and sustainable construction can be promoted in the district.
In the workshop, concrete expert Charanjit Singh and structural engineer Karnail Singh gave information about the techniques used for earthquake resistant building construction, proper quality material and precautions to be taken during construction. He said that it is very important to follow the right technique and precautions in building construction, so that the possible loss during any disaster can be reduced. He said that before building construction or any kind of structural change, one must consult an expert engineer. This will not only ensure the safety of the buildings, but will also reduce the damage during natural disasters like earthquake. Apart from this, Tata Steel expert Sachin Kumar provided detailed information about the steel used as per grading in earthquake resistant building construction.
On this occasion, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana (Concrete Expert) Prof. Charanjit Singh, Head, Structural Engineering, Karnail Singh, Sales Manager Tata Steel Private Limited, Sachin Kumar, Anil Naryal Tata Steel Private Limited, Training & Capacity Building Coordinator DDMA, Rajan Kumar Sharma and senior officers of the district administration, engineers, contractors, architects, and technical experts were present.
