Mohali, August 6- The teacher transfer policy of the Education Department is once again under question. State President of Government Teachers Union (GTU) Punjab Sukhwinder Singh Chahal, General Secretary Gurbinder Singh Saskaur, Finance Secretary Amandeep Sharma and Press Secretary Karnail Phillaur, while briefing the press, said that the department had issued a letter claiming that teachers can apply for station choice on August 5 and 6.
The department could not provide the correct stations for teachers who have been waiting for station choice for almost two months. Not all stations are being shown for transfer, and the ones that are being shown, do not have posts available.
Head teachers are being shown CHT (Center Head Teacher) stations, and choices are being sought for transfer to surplus posts. These shortcomings are weakening the transfer policy. Therefore, the officials who intend to weaken this policy should be held responsible.
Teacher leaders Kuldeep Purowal, Gurpreet Amiwal, Gurdeep Bajwa and Manohar Lal Sharma said that some stations which became vacant after promotion were not shown in the choice list, and some stations were shown where posts are not created on the basis of the number of students, due to which teachers may have to suffer later.
Now information has come to light that many vacant stations were not included in the station choice list for transfer. Apart from this, choices were sought at some places where posts were not created. The leaders alleged that the department is harassing the teachers and trying to fool them in the name of station choice.
Questions have been raised many times before regarding the teacher transfer policy of the Education Department, and now questions have been raised again, due to which there is an atmosphere of resentment among the teacher class. One of the main problems is that less time has been given for station choice, and the website not working properly is also a headache for the teachers.
Many vacant stations were not included in the station choice list for transfer, depriving teachers of the opportunity to choose the station of their choice. Apart from this, station choice has been sought in some places where posts have not been created, which raises questions on the transparency of the policy.
Teacher leaders believe that the department has shown a lack of clarity and fairness in the transfer process. The Education Department had issued new guidelines for the transfer of teachers in 2024, but the same mistakes are being repeated in the 2025 policy.
Leaders say that such flaws not only increase the difficulties of teachers but also have a bad effect on the education system. GTU Punjab has strongly condemned this attitude of the department and demanded that the transfer process be made transparent and fair.
