HOSHIARPUR- Crystal Crop Protection has announced that it will acquire its active ingredient ethoxysulfuron from Bayer AG internationally for sale in select Asian countries. The acquisition marks Crystal’s 13th major deal and is the second acquisition from Bayer after the acquisition of the Indian cotton, millet and mustard seed portfolio in 2021.
Founded by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Crystal Crop is a research and development-driven company that has been providing advanced crop management solutions to farmers for over 4 decades. This is one of Crystal’s largest acquisitions. This will strengthen its position in the rice herbicide market and increase its EBIDTA by up to 20%.
The agreement will also provide the trusted Sunrise trademark and all registrations for the ethoxysulfuron-containing compound product. Ethoxysulfuron is known for its effective control of broadleaf weeds and sedges in rice and cereal crops. This will become a significant value addition to Crystal's portfolio. This acquisition is in line with Crystal's mission to provide cost-effective, sustainable solutions to the product at the local level, resulting in cost synergies and access benefits for farmers in India, South Asia and South-East Asia (including Vietnam, Bangladesh, Thailand and Pakistan).
Commenting on the acquisition, Mr. Ankur Agarwal, Managing Director, Crystal Crop Protection Limited said: “This acquisition is a testament to our focus on strengthening our portfolio, which includes solutions that will make a real difference in the lives of farmers. With this agreement, we are taking another step forward in empowering farmers with advanced weed management solutions.
We will leverage our strong distribution network and manufacturing capabilities to ensure that these solutions reach farmers across India, South Asia and South East Asia. This acquisition is a perfect fit given Crystal’s extensive knowledge of the rice landscape, which will enhance our ability to provide solutions to farmers from seeding to harvesting.
The company's growing presence in South Asia and Southeast Asia through partnerships and acquisitions has strengthened its position as a key player in the agricultural solutions market.
