Phagwara- Taking action under the Punjab government's 'War on Drugs' campaign, the Goraya police in Jalandhar district have seized property worth Rs 70,70,150 of an alleged drug smuggler. This action has been taken under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Goraya police station chief Inspector Sikander Singh Virk said that the property of Jagir wife Jaila Ram was identified as property made from the proceeds of drug trafficking. A detailed proposal for the seizure of the property was submitted to the competent authority in New Delhi, who later approved the seizure.
After this, Inspector Virk along with his police team went to the house of the accused and pasted a copy of the order on the building, through which the parties concerned were formally informed about the seizure of the property.
According to police records, Jagiro has five NDPS cases registered against him, while his son Vijay Kumar has 10 separate cases registered under the same act. Officials believe that the seized property was amassed through illegal drug trade, which was mainly run by Vijay Kumar.
The property has now been frozen as per the directions issued by the competent authority. The police officials reiterated their commitment to root out the menace of drugs and stressed that such actions against persons involved in the illegal trade will continue without any hindrance.
