Nawanshahr, December 8 - Kirti Kisan Union has strongly condemned the use of tear gas and imposing restrictions on farmers walking towards Delhi from Shambhu border and the police repression on farmers protesting against land acquisition in village Lelewala.
The organization's district president Surinder Singh Bains and state committee member Bhupinder Singh Waraich have said that by sealing the remaining borders with Haryana, including Shambhu in Punjab, the BJP-led central and Haryana governments are in a way creating an unfortunate feeling of alienation among the farmers of Punjab. The repression being carried out by the central and state governments is not only tantamount to treating the farmers like citizens of an enemy country.
But it is an indicator of the authoritarian trend of crushing their democratic and constitutional right to struggle. The Kirti Kisan Union has demanded from the central and state governments to stop the repression against the farmers who are peacefully marching towards Delhi and protesting against land acquisition in Lelewala and to accept and implement the pending demands of the farmers, including the legal guarantee of MSP.
