*Retirement age of ASHA workers and facilitators increased to 62 years*

Garhshankar, November 29: Democratic ASHA Workers Facilitator Union Punjab State President Mandeep Kaur Bilga, General Secretary Shakuntala Saroya, Paramjit Kaur Mann, Sarabjit Kaur Machaki, Paramjit Kaur Mudki, Gurminder Kaur Gurdaspur and Shusma Saroya gave information through a joint press statement that under the pressure of the strong protests against the Punjab government by the Honorary Workers Sanjha Morcha Punjab in Gidderbaha, Chabbewal, Dera Baba Nanak, Barnala and Patiala during the by-elections, the Health Minister Punjab and the officials of the Health Department met with the Democratic ASHA Workers at the Civil Secretariat today. 
A meeting was held with a delegation of the Facilitator Union Punjab, in which state president Mandeep Kaur Bilga, Paramjit Kaur Mudki, Gurminder Kaur Gurdaspur, Sukhvir Kaur Faridkot and other leaders participated. In the meeting, the main demands of the workers were to retire ASHA workers at the age of 58, reinstate the dismissed workers, increase the tour allowance of the facilitators, double the honorarium, provide free insurance of Rs 5 lakh to each worker, provide a grant of Rs 5 lakh to the workers at the time of retirement and a pension of Rs 10,000, restore the cut-off allowances of the workers. A detailed discussion was held on this. 
After putting pressure on the panel meeting, a letter was submitted to the leaders in the meeting itself to raise the age of the workers to 62 years, reinstate the dismissed workers, increase the tour allowance of the facilitators. It was assured that the remaining demands would be met again soon and fulfilled. After the meeting, the leaders announced that this was a partial victory due to the intense struggle of the workers and the struggle would continue to achieve the remaining demands.
