Calgary (Canada), November 28: A special meeting of the North Calgary Cultural Association was held at Vivo Hall. President Surinderjit Palaha thanked the 25 members who had volunteered at the casino in the past. He congratulated Purushottam Bhardwaj and Mayawati Bhardwaj on their 65th wedding anniversary and Barinder Madan and Tejinder Madan on their 51st anniversary and reflected on the abolition of Sati Pratha in India and the equal status given to women by Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Members were urged to donate to the food bank. Members whose birthdays fell in November were felicitated with gifts, including Amarjit Kaur Kahlon, Balwinder Kaur Dhillon, Jaswant Singh Kapoor and Satish Sharma. Karam Singh Mundi expressed concern over the tragic incidents of arson and vandalism in Montreal.
Jasvir Sahota narrated some anecdotes from an interesting story including “Dukh jihnu dasna si, kol hundiyan ve door rahe”, Dilawar Samra explained a saying of Guru Nanak Dev ji in a precise manner. Sardar Lal Mattoo denounced casteism by giving the example of World War I martyr Sukha, whose last rites were performed by the whites by collecting money. Jaswant Singh Kapoor denounced casteism through the verses of Gurbani.
Surjit Kaur Kamoh sang the song “Menu rab di son tere naal pyar ho gaya ve channa sachi muchchi” and received applause from the audience. Sukhmander Gill offered prayers to Guru Nanak Dev ji with the song “Nanak diyan gujhiyan Ramzan nu be-samjha jamana ki jaane”. Munawwar Ahmed mesmerized the audience with his instrumental classical singing “Duniya mein agar sangeet na hota, koi kisi ka meet na hota”, “Yeh ehsaan hai saat suron ka ki duniya veeraan nahin”.
He performed the Bent of Heer Waris Shah remarkably; "Heer Akhdi Jogia Jhoot Jhoot Aakhe Kaun Roothde Yaar Mannvada Ae". Mr. Tariq Malik shared the secrets of a happy life, one of which was "Sunia Si Crore Da, Dekhia Tan Lakh Da, Miliya Tan Sau Da, Waah Peya Tan Kakh Da". Dr. Rajwant Kaur Maan recalled the Memorial Day by linking it to the incident of her father coming to fight in the First World War.
She said that as a theatre artist of 'IPTA', his whole life has been dedicated to world peace. Harinder Kaur Mundi threw light on the changes in family relationships. Bhajan Singh Sagoo infused humour by narrating short stories through various genres. The stage was well managed by Jagdev Sidhu. In the end, Surinderjit Palaha thanked the audience and invited them to attend the annual dinner on 13th December.
