Vigilance Bureau arrests clerk of Civil Surgeon’s office on charges of amassing assets beyond known sources of income

Hoshiarpur: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau, in its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, has arrested Jaswinder Singh, a clerk posted at the Registrar of Births and Deaths, Office of the Civil Surgeon, Hoshiarpur, on charges of amassing assets beyond known sources of income.

An official spokesperson of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau said that the arrest was made after registering a case after conducting a thorough investigation into a vigilance inquiry registered in this regard.
He said that the investigation conducted by the Vigilance Bureau revealed that the accused Jaswinder Singh, resident of Gobind Nagar, near Fatehgarh Chungi, Hoshiarpur, had spent a total of Rs 1,23,13,727 during the period of checking from 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2016, while his total income during this period was Rs 88,15,520. Thus, he had spent Rs 34,98,207 more than his income during this period. The spokesperson further said that under the Prevention of Corruption Act, assets in excess of income have been classified as illegal assets. He said that after being found guilty in the investigation, a case has been registered against the said clerk Jaswinder Singh at the Vigilance Police Station Jalandhar Range and further investigation of this case is underway.
