Agencies should take joint action with an organized strategy to stop the sale of spurious liquor and illegal smuggling - Deputy Commissioner

Una, November 5 - Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal has stressed on taking strict action against the sale of spurious liquor and drug smuggling in Una district and has directed all the concerned agencies to take joint action. While chairing the district-level coordination committee meeting held on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the effective implementation of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act and the NDPS Act. He asked the concerned agencies to increase mutual coordination and work under an organized strategy to stop the spread of illicit liquor and drugs.

Una, November 5 - Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal has stressed on taking strict action against the sale of spurious liquor and drug smuggling in Una district and has directed all the concerned agencies to take joint action. While chairing the district-level coordination committee meeting held on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the effective implementation of the Himachal Pradesh Excise Act and the NDPS Act. He asked the concerned agencies to increase mutual coordination and work under an organized strategy to stop the spread of illicit liquor and drugs.
The steps taken under Himachal Pradesh Excise Act 2011, NDPS Act 1985, and Himachal Pradesh NDPS Rules 1989 were reviewed in the meeting. The Deputy Commissioner said that a comprehensive and effective strategy is necessary to root out the business of spurious liquor and illegal drugs. He directed that the departments should regularly exchange information and conduct joint raids as per need. Also, he directed to hold the meeting of District Level Coordination Committee once every quarter so that coordination between the departments is maintained and action against drugs is conducted effectively.
Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal stressed the need to give utmost importance to community safety and strict compliance of the Acts and active monitoring. He also called for involving the local community in this campaign so that smuggling of illicit liquor and drugs can be completely curbed.
39485.017 bulk litres of liquor and alcoholic beverages seized
During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner of State Tax and Excise Department Una, Tikam Ram, while giving information about the action taken in the last six months, said that a total of 39,485.017 bulk liters of liquor and alcoholic beverages have been seized in the district since April 1, 2024. During this action, substances like country and foreign liquor, beer and ENA (Extra Neutral Alcohol) have been seized. He also informed that awareness programs are being organized in schools and colleges regarding the ill effects of alcohol and drug consumption. The main objective of these programs is to make the youth aware of the harmful effects of addiction and keep them away from drugs. The Deputy Commissioner also directed to run such programs on a wider scale.
Superintendent of Police Rakesh Singh, SDM Haroli Vishal Sharma, SDM Gagret Saumil Gautam, SDM Bangana Sonu Goyal, SDM Amb Sachin Sharma, Sub Divisional Police Officer Amb Dr Vasudha Sood, Sub Divisional Police Officer Haroli Mohan Rawat and other senior officers of State Tax and Excise Department Una were present in the meeting.
