Public Health Best Practices of PGIMER Chandigarh Showcased to Senior Delegates from 20 Countries

Senior delegates from 20 countries observed PGIMER Chandigarh's best practices in organ donation, telemedicine, tele-evidence, and green hospital concepts during a field visit as part of the 26th International Public Health Management Development Program. Dr. Sonu Goel, Program Director, emphasized the importance of innovation and implementation in public health, supported by Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

Senior delegates from 20 countries observed PGIMER Chandigarh's best practices in organ donation, telemedicine, tele-evidence, and green hospital concepts during a field visit as part of the 26th International Public Health Management Development Program. Dr. Sonu Goel, Program Director, emphasized the importance of innovation and implementation in public health, supported by Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.

Delegates were briefed on PGIMER’s green hospital building, which has earned the prestigious Platinum rating award. They also witnessed state-of-the-art practices at the ROTTO centre (Regional Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation), Tele-evidence, and Telemedicine centres. The ROTTO centre, a pioneer in organ transplantation, has been recognized as the best center since 2015-2016 and recently received a national award for the highest number of deceased organ donors.

The delegates also visited the Tele-evidence centre, the first in India to allow doctors to provide testimony via video conferencing, saving ?1.92 crores and 30,000 hours over two years. The telemedicine initiative, connecting neighboring states and SAARC countries, was also demonstrated. Dr. Kritika Upadhyay, Program Coordinator, highlighted PGIMER’s excellence in digital health and its leadership in the digital mission.
