Vet Varsity signs MoU with Devans Breweries on Sustainable Feed Project
Ludhiana 24 July 2025- Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Devans Modern Breweries Limited (DMBL), Jammu, for a collaborative research project on the nutrient characterization and utilization of barley distilled grain slub (BDGS) in growing Murrah calves and poultry diets.
Ludhiana 24 July 2025- Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Devans Modern Breweries Limited (DMBL), Jammu, for a collaborative research project on the nutrient characterization and utilization of barley distilled grain slub (BDGS) in growing Murrah calves and poultry diets.
The MoU was signed by Dr. P.S. Brar, Director of Research and Mr. Gurinder Singh Sandhu, General Manager, Devans Modern Breweries Ltd. in the presence of Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor. Congratulating both the teams, Dr. J.P.S. Gill stated, “This MoU is an excellent example of industry-academia synergy to address practical challenges in animal nutrition through scientific innovation. It will not only support sustainability but also generate meaningful data for industrial by-product utilization.” Deans, Directors and scientists of university also graced the occasion.
Dr. J.S. Hundal, Head, Department of Animal Nutrition, shared that the research aims to scientifically evaluate BDGS, a by-product of the brewing industry, for its potential use as a sustainable and cost-effective feed ingredient. The project will be spearheaded by the Department of Animal Nutrition and supported by DMBL with funding of Rs. 20 lakhs, along with the provision of test material.
The findings of this collaborative research will be disseminated through University’s extension platforms, including Kisan Melas, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and other outreach programmes. This partnership reflects university’s continued commitment to applied research, innovation, and the promotion of sustainable livestock feeding practices.
