He was addressing a special press conference at the District Administrative Complex today. On this occasion, he also appealed for public cooperation and awareness about the '100 percent no plastic mission' through the media.
The Deputy Commissioner clarified that more than 20 NGOs of Hoshiarpur have come forward to implement this initiative, whose 150 volunteers, in addition to 150 volunteers of Civil Defense, a total of more than 300 volunteers have been assigned important responsibilities.
They have been assigned shifts in the langars from Adamwal to Hoshiarpur border. During this period, these volunteers will monitor regular cleaning of stalls and langar pandals, ensure 100 percent plastic-free pandals, educate devotees about the 'No Plastic Mission', assist in waste management and report on the best stalls regularly for 10 days.
The Deputy Commissioner said that our aim is not only to provide a clean, safe and environment-friendly environment to devotees, but it is also an example to guide other religious fairs and events. He called upon the media to give wide coverage to this positive campaign.
He said that the administration will reward those who do excellent work at the fair. He said that the best plastic-free langar or stall that follows cleanliness and environmental guidelines will also get an award. The best volunteer who sets an example through their service will also be honored.
Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that special preparations have been made by the administration to make the fair plastic-free. Cloth bag distribution centers, drinking water arrangements, additional dustbins and cleaning teams have been deployed in the fair. He said that this time the district administration, in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, Pollution Control Department, Rural Development Department, will provide eco-friendly plates, spoons etc. worth up to Rs 5 lakh to those langar societies which are unknowingly using single-use plastic. He appealed to all the langar societies not to use single-use plastic.
The Deputy Commissioner said that this is not only the responsibility of the administration, but of all of us. He appealed to the devotees to bring cloth or jute bags and water bottles. Shopkeepers should adopt eco-friendly packaging and the servants should help the devotees.
He said that "Rising Sun" is not just a campaign, but the beginning of giving a clean and green future to our future generations. Therefore, we should not only pray to the mother, but also offer a clean and pollution-free environment. This fair should not be just a religious event, but should become a torch of environmental revolution.
Ashika Jain said that for the convenience of the people, a control room has been set up with Reliance Industries and any devotee can contact the control room number 01882- 292570 in case of any emergency. She appealed to the devotees not to use heavy vehicles and also to avoid travelling on the roofs of buses.
She said that for the convenience of the devotees, special arrangements have been made by the district administration for traffic control, security, cleanliness, health services. Secretary Red Cross Society Mangesh Sood, Joint Secretary Aditya Rana, members of Red Cross Society, NGOs and volunteers were also present on the occasion.
