Chandigarh: In the election held today for the next one-year term of Mayor of Chandigarh, BJP's Saurabh Joshi was elected Mayor. 36 elected councilors voted in the mayoral election to choose the city's new mayor. This time, instead of secret ballot, the election was conducted by a show of hands. In the mayoral election, Saurabh Joshi from the BJP, Gurpreet Singh Gabi from the Congress party, and Yogesh Dhingra from the Aam Aadmi Party were in the fray.
Saurabh Joshi received 18 votes, Gurpreet Singh Gabi received 7 votes, and Aam Aadmi Party candidate Yogesh Dhingra received 11 votes. As soon as the results of the mayoral election were declared, the newly elected Mayor Saurabh Joshi reached the Mayor's seat with a picture of his father and paid his respects. After assuming office, Joshi said, "A father's penance, a son's resolve. I come from a place where politics wasn't about noise, but service was a way of life."
He dedicated his achievement today to the values ??instilled in him by his parents and family. Before taking the Mayor's seat, Saurabh Joshi thanked all the councilors, both from the ruling and opposition parties, and promised to work together with everyone, rising above politics, for the development of the city and the welfare of its people during his term as Mayor. He also thanked the residents of his ward for their affection.
The election process was initiated by Presiding Officer Ramnik Bedi. Voting for the Congress candidate was held first. The Aam Aadmi Party did not support the Congress in the mayoral election, which made it clear that the BJP would win. After that, votes were cast for the BJP candidate by a show of hands. Joshi received 18 votes. The Congress staged a walkout after the voting for their candidate. Finally, voting was held for the Aam Aadmi Party candidate Yogesh Dhingra. Dhingra received 11 votes.
Ramchandra Yadav, who had shown rebellious tendencies towards his party, also cast his vote for Dhingra. This time, the mayoral election was also videographed to prevent any possibility of rigging. In the subsequent election for Senior Deputy Mayor, BJP's Jasmanpreet Singh emerged victorious. BJP's Suman Devi also won the Deputy Mayor election. Ramchandra Yadav withdrew his name before the election.
Joshi said that the way the senior leadership has trusted him and given him this opportunity, he wants to tell the BJP workers at the booth level that he sat at a polling booth for the first time in 1989, and today the senior leadership has brought him to this position.
