Chandigarh, September 30:- Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Central Government for the increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) of all notified Rabi crops for the marketing season 2027-28. The Chief Minister said that this decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, will prove to be a milestone in strengthening the economic condition of farmers of the country and the state and ensuring remunerative prices for their produce.
Shri Nayab Singh Saini said that the increase in MSP of notified Rabi crops for the marketing season 2027-28 is in line with the historic announcement made in the Union Budget 2018-19, under which a commitment was made to fix MSP at a minimum of 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production. He informed that under this decision, the highest increase in MSP has been announced for safflower at Rs. 675 per quintal, while an increase of Rs. 413 per quintal has been made for rapeseed and mustard. Similarly, the MSP for lentil has been increased by Rs. 390 per quintal, barley by Rs. 136 per quintal, gram by Rs. 83 per quintal and wheat by Rs. 25 per quintal.
The Chief Minister clarified that the estimated margin over the cost of production reflects the government's unwavering commitment towards the welfare of farmers. As per the new MSP rates, farmers will get an impressive margin of 106 percent over the all-India weighted average cost of production on wheat, while a margin of 96 percent on mustard and rapeseed, 92 percent on lentil, 59 percent on gram, 58 percent on barley and 50 percent on safflower has been ensured.
He further said that in recent years, the Central Government has been consistently offering higher MSPs to promote crops such as pulses and oilseeds besides foodgrains. The increased MSP of Rabi crops will not only increase farmers' income and ensure remunerative prices for them, but will also give a major boost to crop diversification in the state. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Haryana's farmers, benefiting from these decisions, will continue to make their significant contribution towards further enriching the country's foodgrain reserves.
