Una, March 7: INTUC workers are overjoyed after Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi nominated Anurag Sharma from Himachal Pradesh and Dalit militant leader Karamveer Singh Baudh from Haryana for the Rajya Sabha elections. This was stated by Comrade Jagat Ram Sharma, Secretary of the National INTUC and General Secretary of the State INTUC, in a press note.
He explained that as a senior INTUC leader from Himachal, he had raised the demand for Rajya Sabha candidates and had sent written copies to Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, and Minister Vikramaditya Singh.
Jagat Ram Sharma stated that Anurag Sharma has been nominated for the Rajya Sabha election from Himachal, and his victory is considered almost certain because the BJP has not fielded its own candidate. He said that Anurag Sharma has been associated with the Congress Party for nearly 30 years and is well-versed in grassroots issues. His rise from the district level to a high position is reminiscent of the era of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, when militant, honest, and dedicated workers were recognized.
He said that in recent years, the infiltration of some ambitious elements within the Congress party has harmed the organization and led to a decline in the party's standing. However, now the tide is turning, and grassroots leaders are being brought to the forefront.
Jagarat Ram Sharma also welcomed the nomination of Dalit leader Karamveer Singh Baudh from Haryana as a Rajya Sabha candidate, saying that he knows him personally and that he is a sincere and loyal leader to the party. He said that Karamveer Singh Baudh is working to spread the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and B.R. Ambedkar to the masses and has also played an active role in the Save the Constitution campaign.
He added that Karamveer Singh Baudh recently participated in a meeting of the Dalit community, in which he himself was present. The meeting was held at the local Savings Building in Una.
Comrade Jagat Ram Sharma said that when such militant and grassroots leaders enter the Rajya Sabha, public issues will be raised strongly and their resolution will be possible. This will not only benefit the people of Himachal and Haryana, but will also highlight the real issues facing the nation.
Addressing Congress workers, he said that those who lost elections despite significant opportunities in the name of the Nehru-Gandhi family need not be disappointed. Congress needs experienced, honest, and committed leaders who can strongly question the BJP's economic and political policies from the platforms. He said that age is no barrier, and workers should take inspiration from National INTUC President Sanjiv Reddy and work to strengthen the organization.
