The objective of commemorating the tragedy of Partition is not to foster animosity towards anyone, but to remember the hardships and human suffering endured, so that future generations may learn from history and further strengthen the country's unity and integrity.
Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan was speaking as the chief guest at the district-level 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' event held at the local Mangalsen Auditorium on Friday. He inaugurated the program by paying floral tributes to the portrait of Bharat Mata. Prior to this, he viewed an exhibition on the horrors of Partition set up at the venue. He paid homage to those who lost their lives and to the displaced families during the 1947 Partition by observing a two-minute silence. A short film depicting the horrors of the 1947 Partition was also screened on the occasion.
In his address, Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan noted that people faced extremely difficult circumstances during the Partition. Many families were forced to leave their homes overnight. Women, children, and the elderly endured immense suffering. He noted that those displaced to India rebuilt their lives through hard work, courage, and resilience, even amidst trying circumstances, and made significant contributions to the development of the nation and the state. He urged everyone to honor the struggles and sacrifices of those individuals by resolving to strengthen mutual brotherhood, harmony, and social unity. India’s strength lies in its unity in diversity, and we must work together to propel the country forward.
Speaking at the event, Assandh MLA Yogendra Rana described August 14 as the most painful chapter in the nation's history—a day observed as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' (Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas). It is a day to pay tribute to the immense courage, struggle, and sacrifice of the millions who lost their homelands, their homes, and their loved ones during the Partition of 1947. Countless people lost their lives, and families endured the agony of separation from their kin.
On this occasion, BJP District President Praveen Lathar stated that everyone had gathered to recall a history whose wounds remain fresh in the annals of time. He reiterated that August 14 marks the most painful chapter in the country's history, observed as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day,' a day dedicated to honoring the immense courage, struggle, and sacrifice of the millions who lost their homelands, homes, and loved ones during the 1947 Partition.

During the program, victims of the Partition's horrors—Tilak Raj Khurana, Santosh Atreja, Omprakash Atreja, Sumitra Kukreja, Parmanand Khurana, Lajpat Chaudhary, Gyan Prakash Kukreja, Dr. Gopal Krishna, and Sharad Bhatia—shared their harrowing experiences from that time on stage, moving the audience to tears. The event's organizer and former Chairperson, Rozi Malik, also shed light on the historical reality of the Partition's horrors and the suffering endured by the refugees who came to our country. She urged everyone to learn from history and pledge to uphold the nation's unity, integrity, and brotherhood.
