Mohali, December 5: "India tops the world in heart attacks among young people. The average age of people with heart disease is decreasing, and these days, due to sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy habits, we are seeing heart patients as young as 25."
Dr. Harsimranjeet Singh, Senior Consultant-Cardiology at Park Hospital, said, "In India, approximately 30 million people suffer from coronary artery disease, and approximately 27% of deaths in India are due to heart disease. The country will soon have the highest number of heart disease cases in the world."
Park Hospital announced the completion of 200 successful cardiac surgeries. With this, the hospital has now become a Center of Excellence in Cardiac Sciences.
CTVS Consultant Dr. Siddharth Garg shared that minimally invasive cardiac surgery and robotic surgery are the future of cardiac sciences.
Consultant-Cardiology Dr. Arshdeep Singh said, "According to recent data, approximately 30 percent of the urban population and 15 percent of the rural population suffer from high blood pressure and heart attacks."
Consultant-Cardiac Anesthesia Dr. Arjun Pratap Joshi said that as the risk factors for heart disease increase, so does the mortality rate.
Dr. Brahmaprakash, Vice President, Medical Operations, said, "Patients with type 2 diabetes have a 2-3 times higher risk of heart problems than the general population. Currently, there are 100 million people with diabetes in India, and this number is expected to rise to 135 million by 2035.

Tips to reduce the risk of heart disease:
Ø Don't smoke
Ø Know your risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol, as these are silent killers.
Ø Maintain a healthy weight. Exercise regularly. Eat less saturated fat, focusing on vegetables and high fiber intake.
Ø Get your lipids checked and avoid trans fats. Avoid alcohol.
Ø Go for an annual preventive health package.
Ø Manage your stress with yoga and meditation.
Ø Know your homocysteine ??levels.
