Rupnagar:- The decision of the Himachal Pradesh government to increase entry tax from April 1 has created tension in the border areas of both the states. In response to this, Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains today announced that the Punjab government is also planning to impose entry tax on commercial vehicles registered in Himachal Pradesh.
He said that although the government does not want to burden the common people, by imposing tax on commercial vehicles of Himachal, the government there will be made to feel the suffering of the people.
Minister Harjot Bains, taking a strong stand, said that the Himachal government's imposition of tax on National Highways is completely illegal because these roads come under the National Highway Authority of India. The Punjab government is preparing to approach the Supreme Court regarding this matter. On the other hand, BJP MLA from Una in Himachal Pradesh, Satpal Satti, has also condemned this decision of his own government.
This tax hike is being opposed not only at the political level but also at the public level. Local organizations and residents of both the states have planned to block the inter-state borders from April 1. People say that this tax will become a big problem for those who go from one state to another for daily work.
