Chandigarh, October 12, 2025: The suicide of senior Haryana Police officer, ADGP Shri Y. Puran Kumar, on October 7, 2025, exposed the profound failure of the administrative system and the serious problem of casteism prevalent in society. In his final message, he named senior officers responsible, accusing them of mental harassment and undue pressure. This incident is also a profound manifestation of social and administrative injustice against Scheduled Castes.
ADGP Puran Kumar served with justice and integrity throughout his 30-year police career. His tragedy is not merely a personal one, but a reflection of the failure of the entire system and social discrimination.
To protest this tragic incident and demand justice, the Aam Aadmi Party, Chandigarh, today organized a peaceful but vigorous candlelight vigil from Aroma Lights Point Chowk in Sector 22. The vigil was led by party president Vijaypal Singh. A large number of party leaders, workers, councillors, and citizens participated.
Vijaypal Singh said, "This suicide is not just an individual tragedy, but a sign of systemic failure. An impartial investigation and action should be immediately taken against the officers named by ADGP Puran Kumar in his final letter. The conspiracy hatched against the Scheduled Castes will no longer be tolerated."
General Secretary Omkar Singh Aulakh said, "We have not come here today merely to pay tribute. This is a message that injustice and oppression will no longer be tolerated. Strict action must be taken against the culprits. The administration and the government must now shoulder their responsibility."
Other leaders who participated in the march included P.P. Ghai, Advocate Khurcha, Yogesh Dhingra (Spokesperson), Premlata, Hardeep, Manour, Jaswinder Kaur (LOP), Anju Katiyal, Ramchandra Yadav, Shadab Rathi, Harjinder Bawa, and Vikrant A. Tanwar (State Media Incharge). They lit candles and prayed for the peace of the soul of ADGP Puran Kumar and strongly demanded justice.
The party clarified that this candlelight march is not just a tribute, but a public message of protest against the injustice being perpetrated against the Scheduled Castes and the society. The casteism and bias prevalent in the administrative system will no longer be tolerated. The culprits will not be spared.
"We stand up for the safety and dignity of Scheduled Caste citizens, especially those from the Scheduled Castes. Even senior officials in the administration should now understand that the public's eyes are open to casteism and discrimination. This isn't just a candlelight vigil, but the beginning of a fight for justice and equality across society. We will ensure that injustice against any particular caste is never ignored."
